A significant increase of bald eagles
The number of bald eagles in the 48 states of the United States was once on the brink of extinction. Over the past ten years, their number has increased to more than 316,000. According to data, this is a very good index despite a sharp drop in the population of other American birds.
A new study by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has shown that there are now more than 70,000 of these predators in the United States. And in the late 1960s, there were less than 500 of them.
The bald eagle has always been considered a holy species for the American Indians. But these birds were constantly hunted, poisoned, and people destroyed their habitat throughout the United States. A recent study found that the population of bald eagles has significantly increased since the last count was carried out in 2009.
But despite the success of increasing the number of bald eagles, the population of all American birds has declined by about a third. And two-thirds of North American bird species are at big risk of extinction due to climate changing, namely warming.
