Possibly not meteorites but lightning are responsible for the creation of our planet
On Tuesday, a team of researchers stated that lightning strikes that were happening during the first billion years after the planet formated nearly 4.5 billion years ago. As a consequence, it could release phosphorus, which is essential for the formation of biomolecules demanded life. Such research could contribute insight into the roots of the earliest microbial life on Earth and potential extraterrestrial life on different planets. Phosphorus is one of the most important elements of life since it creates the foundation of the genetic element of existing organisms.
On young Earth, this chemical component was caught inside insolvable minerals. Until now, it was believed that the meteorites that bombed early Earth were originally responsible for the appearance of “bioavailable” phosphorus. The phosphorus minerals which were formed by lightning shots eventually surpassed phosphorus minerals by about 3.5 billion years ago, approximately the age of the first known remains reputedly microbial. “Therefore, lightning strikes could be an essential part of the beginning of life on Earth”-the study authors say.
Unlike meteor strikes, which decline over time, lightning strikes can happen at a regular time during the history of the planet. This proposes that lightning strikes can additionally be a very valuable mechanism for producing the phosphorus needed for life to develop other earthly planets after meteorite strikes became rare.
The study shows that the result of bioactive phosphorus from lightning shots could have been underestimated and that this mechanism gives a never-ending number of material able to release phosphorus in a form suitable for beginning life. Among the elements considered fundamental for life are water, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur, and phosphorus.
