According to data published on Monday, provided by the International Renewable Energy Agency, the world gained a record number of renewable energy capacity established in 2020.

Thus, global renewable energy capacity was developed by more than 260 gigawatts, regarding last year. This broke the previous record that was documented in 2019 by approximately 50%. And previous year became the second following year when the part of clean energy increased significantly, with renewables estimating for more than 80% of all recent electrical capacity that was added in 2020. In the contrast, general fossil fuel additions went down by more than 6%, regarding last year.

These numbers bring us to hope that renewable energies will become a source of a better, sustainable, and cleaner life in the future.

Hydropower accounts for more than 43% of our planet’s renewable energy generation capacity. And it is still the biggest global source producing clean energy. However, other sources are also developing. For example, solar and wind power provided 127 GW and 111 GW of the latest set of objects, estimating 91% of renewable energy increase in 2020.

Although utilizing renewable energy sources became a widespread trend, there are still a lot of things that need to be done.
